Harbor Freight is upping its game in its cordless power tool world with more and more brushless tools. This new HERCULES 20V Brushless 1/4″ Hex Impact Driver is said to have 2,200 in/lbs of torque, more than 3,000 RPM, and more than 4,000 IPM. You get 3 power modes, an Auto mode, and a variable-speed trigger. This should be hitting the @harborfreight shelves in the coming weeks and it will sell for only $79 (bare tool). Is the new Hercules impact driver really A 200 pound killer we'll find out This is the all-new Hercules 20 volt Brushless quarter inch hex impact driver Now we saw this at SEMA at the end of Last year but we really wanted to get in The shop and get in our hands and see What we thought of it supposed to have 2200 inch pounds of force that's almost 200 foot-pounds and we'll be sure to Test that but right now let's dive in Take a closer look at this check out the Features on it check out a few of the Other things they're offering like Batteries and chargers and then we'll Jump over to the test bench and actually Test this thing out see how well it does This is the all-new Hercules 20 volt Brushless impact driver quarter inch hex Impact driver and this is said to have 2200 inch pounds of force that's almost 200 foot-pounds of four soil we'll be Trying that out for sure we get three LEDs here on the front of the tool so it Surrounds the Fastener with the light so We love to see that versus the old idea Of having the light mounted down here at The base that kind of shined up now it Surrounds the Fastener surrounds the bit And actually does a better job at Ensuring that you have enough light for The work that you're doing anyway so we Have a quarter inch hex collet here Typical pull out the sleeve to unlock it
And lock it into place directional lever Here forward and reverse we do get a Variable speed trigger And in mode three we're going to get up To 3600 RPM but again we can vary that As we need it and up to 4400 impacts per Minute when it's actually driving screws And loosening Fasteners now this is a Four mode or a three speed mode three Power modes and an auto mode so here at The base of the tool you can see we can Choose between a for auto and one two And three and we'll be testing those out Basically they're going to step up and Power Step Up in speed in the one two And three and the auto is going to do Some way of actually sensing when Something's tight as well as sensing When something's loosened and we'll show That here in a few moments now this is Also a compact tool it's pretty small Less than nine inches tall with the two And a half amp hour battery and front to Back is less than 5 five inches in fact We put our calipers on here and exactly Four and three quarter inches 4.74 Inches in length and then across the Tool you're looking at under two and a Half inches so it is a very compact tool We have the two and a half amp hour Battery on here but just like Hercules Or Harbor Freight is releasing this new Impact driver they're also releasing Some new batteries as well we've got the
5 amp hour so the 5 amp hour the two and A half amp hour gonna have your typical 18 600 cells in them and then this is The new 4 amp hour Extreme Performance Battery I believe we saw this at SEMA at The end of last year this has the 21 700 Cells in it you can see if I lay these Side by side quite a bit taller here and Longer and we know that's going to be The case when you have 21 700 sales they Are longer and broader so a high Performance battery we'll be testing That out as well And then they're even up in their game On their chargers they have a dual Bay Charger that simultaneous charging as Well as they have a single fan cooled uh Charger as well so get some faster Charging with the Hercules tools now as Well So we got a measurement on this so let's Go ahead and get a weight To three pounds three and a half ounces And that's with the two and a half amp Hour battery Foreign Power is going to bump that up quite a Bit so yeah three and three quarter Pounds so three pounds 12 ounces and Then the five amp hour battery Three pounds 12 ounces so basically the Same weight between the four amp hour And the five amp hour battery Now let's take this over and use it and
See what we think okay first this is Just a very simple test of driving a Three and a half inch external deck Screws through some pressure treated 2×4 And into a piece of LVL but anyway so I Have it in speed three And I have a Hercules bit on there as Well Here we go So definitely not a lot of trouble Driving those had no problem at least Burying them below surface it's probably Not the quickest that I've seen but Definitely had the power to drive those Without much issue and we do have a Almost full charge battery so let me go Ahead and charge that up and we'll carry On All right so what we will do we will go Ahead and tighten these fasteners And I'm going to start at 150 Foot-pounds and we'll go to 200 and then 250 and then 300 Foot-pounds Foreign We have these tightened now with our High torque torque tool and we have 150 Foot-pounds 200 250 and 300 foot-pounds If we need to go higher than that we'll Start back over at 350 and go from there Now we are doing Breakaway torque and Not tightening torque there's a bit of Difference there but for for right now That's what we're going to talk about so
We're going to focus on breaking away 150 foot pounds and up we have our two And a half amp hour battery we have a Full charge and by the way if you're new To the channel and you haven't seen us Test impacts we're going to let these Hit for 10 seconds if the Fastener is Not moving by that 10 second Mark then It does not go forward that's where it Ends and we'll award it the one prior to If it is starting to move before that 10 Second Mark we will let it go ahead and Finish that but that will be the end it Won't move up to the next round now Since this is a quarter inch hex impact Driver and obviously we need an adapter And why not try out the Hercules adapter With it so there's a quarter inch by Half inch adapter Let's get this in And by the way Just notice something yeah that slides In and locks without having to slide That sleeve forward that's awesome love To see that feature Slide it in it locks And we just have to pull it out to Remove it But putting it in Single hand input to put that bit in All right so we've got some index marks Around the socket here so hopefully You'll be able to see it if it's moving So let's go ahead and yep we're on mode
Three and by the way we'll show that Auto mode here in a few moments as well Let's make sure we're in reverse There we go we're in Reverse let's start Off at 150 foot-pounds 200 Okay so that's already higher than what They claim 250. All right so we're at 250 now we're at 300. All right so let's now start at 350. Pretty impressed so far Foreign Okay we'll start back over now Let's see here still have a full charge On the two and a half amp hour battery We're going to start at 350 foot-pounds Then we have 400 450 and 500 if we need To get there In reverse 350. foreign 400 . 450. So I had a little trouble with that one But it definitely broke it free My adapter is getting quite hot So now let's try 500. I think we're Probably going to stop right here I bet It's not going to be able to handle this One Yep seemed like it budged there for a Second but after watching it a while it Was not moving so definitely 450
Foot-pounds could not get the 500. I am Curious though Foreign For a few moments and then we'll try it With the four amp hour battery Okay now let's see If the 4 amp hour Extreme Performance we'll break that Free It did now we were hitting on that Already with the two and a half amp hour So let's tighten that back up Foreign and see if that was an anomaly Or not I am impressed with the Hercules adapter Holding up to this Again we're in mode three 500 foot pounds And that's all she wrote Okay we've got a new adapter on here and Let's see I think it was already Breaking this free by the way Foreign Fifty foot pounds And here we go Foreign Did not budge Still quite impressive to get 500 foot Pounds out of the Hercules with the four Amp hour battery Let's test out that auto mode so I'm Going to go into Auto And we'll go in reverse Foreign
It doesn't seem to slow down in reverse It does stop the tool Now I'm going to go in reverse Forward Okay so it's stopping the tool And then if I let off and pull the Trigger again it goes into full full Speed I don't have a problem with that So now we're tied I'm going to go into Reverse So it doesn't seem to be slowing down On the reverse setting But the tight mode it definitely stops It's just on the reverse it's not It's not sensing anything and stopping In the reverse mode but the auto mode And forward in Titan definitely helps You to not over tighten the faster but Then you can release pull the trigger Again and continue to tighten that Fastener Foreign Okay I don't know which I'm more Impressed with the Hercules 20 volt Brushless impact driver or the impact Adapter most of these usually fail Pretty quick and the fact that this is a Harbor freight version of an impact Adapter it worked out quite well I think It would have broke free I think 450 Foot-pounds and then broke on the 500 Foot-pound Fastener very impressive Hercules very impressive now listen to This tool you saw it so it broke free
