Dewalt's newest Flagship impact driver Again Let's see how it does This is the DeWalt DCF 845 and it's part Of their XR series which means it should Be cream of the crop so the newest 20 Volt brushless impact driver in the XR Lineup the DCF 845 let's take a closer Look at the features and some of the Specs on this and then obviously we're Going to use this come back and talk About pricing about warranty and what we Think of it this is the all-new 20 volt Brushless impact driver from DeWalt it's The model number Dcf845 now if you remember not too long Ago probably a year ago the atomic DCF 850 came out but a little bit different Of an impact driver and wasn't part of Their XR lineup so if you want their Flagship product you know their top of The Heap if you will typically you're Going to look for their XR so this is The brand new XR latest edition DCF 845 Now numbers wise as far as power it's 1800 125 inch pounds which is right at 150 foot pounds which is not only Different than the last couple of models Like the 850 and by the way the 850s Right here we'll compare it in just one Moment but we get three speeds like we Did with the 850 1825 inch pounds or 150 plus foot pounds And but here's what's different on this

RPM are now up to 3 400 Max where before It was 32.50 and impacts per minute We're all the way up to 4 200 impacts Per minute now and the old one I believe Was 3 800 impacts per minute so bumping Up the RPM bumping up the impacts per Minute but still the same power output As far as what the claims are we'll see If on the test bench if that shows Something different now in all three Speed modes and we by the way we have Like a feels like a manual switch I'm Sure it's electronic on the inside but There's no button to press there's no Blister blister buttons or anything like That so you get a nice slide switch with Detents in there that feels actually Pretty nice to tell you the truth anyway So in all of those modes you're still Going to get a variable speed trigger so Even if you have it in Speed 3 where you Can you know get that maximum 4200 Impacts per minute 3 400 RPM you can Still vary those RPM and make it crawl As slow as you want to with that Variable speed trigger then we have our Directional lever right there below the Head now when you look at these speeds I Couldn't find anything on the website Where it showed what the speeds were in These and I couldn't find it in the Manual either however in speed one we Have a little screw there so I'm Assuming there's some type of automated

Something going on there Auto Titan or Maybe uh you know limiting cam out for For self tappers or something like that So we'll try that here in a moment if I Just put it in one and pull the trigger Obviously the speed is low but I really Can't tell without a load on it so we'll Test that here in a few moments now you Can get this as a bare tool or in a kit And you can get a kit with a one five Amp hour battery or you can get a kit Like you see here with the two 5 amp Hour batteries the bag and the charger Together as well we'll go over pricing And warranty in just a few minutes now This is also connect ready so you can Take off that plate right there and put In your chip and be able to track track Your tools in this latest version as Well obviously that would be the case in Your in your XR in the flagship model They're obviously going to have that the Handle ergonomics everything looks Pretty much the same as the last few Models and then the quarter inch hex Input let's try that so one-handed input Yes we do have one-handed input and then Pull the ring and it is spring loaded Where it will eject that but so putting It in I don't have to slide that out I Can just push it in lock that into place Pull it out and it's going to Spring Load and shoot that back out love to see That so then we don't have to have two

Hands to load those bits let's go ahead And get a weight with the 5 amp hour Battery Three pounds seven ounces so still a Very light tool And bear tool if you want to know that Uh two pounds a half an ounce two pounds 2.03 ounces so very light tool So again with the 5 amp hour battery Three pounds seven ounces and just Curious Here's the dcf850 Three pounds seven and a half ounces so This one's just a touch heavier than the New 845 But very similar in weight still very Light tools even with that five amp hour Battery because really I love this tool An impact driver if you can get away With it if you're not needing Mega Power With the power stack battery So with the baby power stack That tool let's see if we lighten it up Some yeah now we're below three pounds With that power stack battery and look At that footprint just really Slims up The footprint makes it a lower profile Tool just a very handy tool with that Power stack on there just mates up to That very very well again if you don't Need the monster power from a 5 amp hour Now let's put our regular battery back On It comes with the kit take our Atomic

Away and hide this tool with the 5 amp Hour battery right at nine and a half Inches tall And then looks like 5.17 inches long From tip to tail And then if you look this is where it Differs quite a bit from the atomic so We're at what two and a quarter inches 2.27 inches And if we look at the back of the atomic This one's quite a bit shorter But when you look at the width that's Where the width of this Atomic is A little bit wider so yeah you're Looking at 2.6 inches versus two and a Quarter inches across the back so if You're needing in a slim location but Able to fit you know the length in there Then obviously the 845 would be a better Choice but the opposite is true if You're needing something to fit in a Tight space but you have plenty of width Then obviously the atomic is going to Work for you and if you want to see it Next to its predecessor this is the Dcf887 XR so kind of the flagship before This and obviously maybe a little bit Thicker in the nose section right here And then it's also just a bit longer I know I have the sleeve off the front Of this but most of it's there anyway so You can see we're probably maybe shorter By a quarter inch here on the new one But otherwise really very similar

Let's go use it and see what we think Okay I've got a piece of pressure Treated two by ten two by eight Something in there two by eight I think Uh in the Vise and we'll run some screws In here see what we think I'm going to Start in speed one and see what we get I Believe we're going to have like a Reduced power here just going to use a Typical Phillips head drywall screw And I'm gonna pull the trigger and go Okay so I pull the trigger it starts Stops Waits about a half a second and Then takes off again I'm going to pull the trigger and I'm Just going to leave my finger on there So you see it It turns just a little bit so here I'm Going to pull the trigger and leave my Finger on it So you see it turns it a turn and then Waits about a half a second and then Starts driving again but at a really low Power I think that's meant for self Tappers not so much for driving wood Screws I'm going to go to Speed two here Yeah no problem driving that I'm still in two Drive some three inch Deck screws Four inch deck screw Now I'm going to go to speed three Quite a bit faster Quite a bit faster

Now I'm splitting my wood Yeah much more power in speed three Put it on a half inch socket got some Quarter inch light probably 3 8 lag Screws Foreign Mode one and I'll show you here self tap And screw So that's what that's for Keep that from stripping out that so I Can pull My finger on the trigger leave it on There And then it's going to pause break it Through and then Glide that in there and Then I can lift it gives me a moment to Lift before it actually Strips Before it strips that out Okay here's how this is going to work We're going to take the dcf845 and we're Going to break free these Fasteners here After we torque them we're going to Start torquing them in 150 foot-pounds Go to 200 250 300 and then if it breaks Those free we'll start back over here at 350 400 450 and then probably jump to The bigger Fasteners at 500 foot-pounds If we get that far but let's go ahead And get these torqued down Foreign Okay we'll get started you'll see here On the sockets we have several different Painted lines just for you to be able to

See an indicator kind of an index Mark To see it moving we'll give it 10 Seconds to start moving that faster if It has not done it within 10 seconds We'll shut it down if it has started Moving within that 10 second window then We'll let it go ahead and finish and Give it that amount and then move on Three three Full battery Reverse 150 foot pounds Okay that was a great example at 300 Foot-pounds it was barely moving but it Was moving at the 10 second Mark so we Went ahead and gave it to it okay we're Going to come back here and start at 350 And then go to 400 and 450. Okay we still have a full battery Still in speed three and in reverse And we've got 350 foot-pounds and 400. Thank you Okay I had it going for way more than 10 Seconds without moving it and so I'm not Going to give it so I believe the 850 Went well beyond the 350 foot-pounds so A little bit less power is what we're Seeing on the Breakaway torque on the 845 versus the 850. all right let me Clarify what I just said in the testing I believe I said that the 850 did a lot More that's not the case we look back at Our footage and in fact the atomic I Think Broke Free 300 with the lower amp

Hour battery and then was able to do 350 With the 4 amp hour uh and and then it Couldn't do any more so it went to 350 This one stopped at 300. so not a big One and we didn't do 325 who knows it May have done 325. but it struggled Quite a bit at the 300 and then Obviously couldn't break free the 350 so Really didn't increase in power over the Atomic 850 as far as speed it's Definitely a faster driver so I think For fastening situations if you're Driving long deck screws things like That then you may eke out a little more Uh you know speed if you will out of This unit versus the dcf850 but still This is a good unit it's not down on Power and the price really stays about The same so you can buy this bare tool For 149 dollars you can buy it with a One battery you know five amp hour Battery and charger kit for I believe 229 and then for 299 you can get the two Batteries and the charger and the case And the Tool uh for for 299 and the Warranty is going to be a three-year Warranty on this so hey check it out for Yourselves we think if you're looking For an impact driver and you're in the DeWalt platform you can't go wrong with It you'll be happy with it if you're Wanting something shorter you have the DCF 850 but as far as power wise I think It's a wash either way so let us know
