This Hercules HCB85B 20V Brushless Ultra Torque Impact Wrench from Harbor Freight claims to have 1,400 ft-lbs of breakaway. We just reviewed its little brother, the HCB86B High Torque Impact Wrench. We really pushed both of these impacts to their boundaries and they both stood pretty strong. This Ultra Torque impact may be the king of the hill for 1/2″ impact wrenches. What's so Ultra about the ultra torque Let's find out [Music] Well just yesterday we actually released The review of The Harbor Freight or Hercules 20 volt brushless high torque Impact wrench and we let you know that Today we'd be releasing the ultra torque Version of the tool so they look pretty Much identical but one's the yeah Ultra Torque and the other one's a high torque Uh this is supposed to be like 1400 Foot-pounds and this is supposed to be 1200 foot-pounds a breakaway torque so If you haven't seen this review then by All means you can watch that one we'll Have a link in the description and Floating somewhere around here uh anyway So let's talk about the ultra torque the High torque is the 86b and the ultra Torque is the 85b now let's quit wasting Time but we'll just Dive Right In and Take a closer look at each of these Features which is pretty much identical To This one right here uh and then we're Actually going to use it and see does it Really eclipse the performance of the High torque which was pretty impressive And we'll use it with the 5 amp hour Battery as well as the 8 and the 12 amp Hour as well or maybe just jump to the 12 amp hour uh and by the way these are 21 700 cells again we'll cover that in

Just one moment then we'll come back After all that and we'll talk about Pricing and about warranty and the Different batteries and how you can buy These we've got the Hercules HCB 85b and It's their Ultra torque half inch Brushless impact wrench so not a high Torque impact wrench but they're Ultra Torque impact wrench so yes I would call It still a high torque impact wrench but They have their high torque which is Here which is looks pretty close cousin Maybe pretty close brother maybe a twin Brother anyway we've already covered This one and we'll have a link in the in The description for the review as well As probably a link floating somewhere Around here but if you want to check That one out you can do so but this is The ultra torque this is the King of the Hill when it comes to the Hercules Impact wrenches so not a small guy but Not supposed to be it's a high torque or Ultra torque impact now they're claiming 1400 foot pounds of breakaway torque Pretty impressive you get three Different speed modes and an auto mode And really the auto Mode's kind of Broken into two because Auto and Titan Is different than the auto and loosen And we'll show you that here in a few Moments but anyway the three different Speeds here so in speed one all these Speeds you're going to get a variable

Speed trigger where you can still go as Slow as you want to make it almost crawl And then the more input you give the Faster that tool is going to get But wide open is speed one is 550 RPM And then in Speed 2 it's 1180 RPM and Then in speed three You're looking at 1600 RPM and again That's going to vary based on how much Input you provide and then the impacts Per minute is going to be the same and That's going to be anywhere from 0 to 2150 IPM or impact per minute and once There's some some pushback or some Pressure against that Anvil then you'll Hear it start impacting you'll and You'll hear that up to 2150 impacts per Minute we get a brushless motor as Indicated right here on the tool Hercules brushless a half inch hog ring Style or friction ring style Anvil so no Pins needed or anything like that no Detent and and again this is going to be Their top of the line or their most Powerful impact wrench runs on their 20 Volt lithium ion battery system now this Is the 5 amp hour that I have it on here Right now which is made up of 18650 Cells and the 8 Amp Hour and the 12 amp Hour that are over here here they're Both going to be made of 21 700 cells so Higher performing as well as higher Capacity on both those batteries and Then we even have a dual Bay charger

Over here that will simultaneously Charge both batteries at the same time So definitely increasing your efficiency And you get two USB ports out as well Now all of this is kind of sold a la Carte you get this as a bare tool and Then you can buy your batteries chargers We'll go over that pricing here in a few Moments now we're going to take this Over and actually run it through some Tests to see how powerful it really is Again they're claiming up to 1400 Foot-pounds but first let's get a weight And measure this tool So first we'll wait with the 5 amp hour Battery Seven pounds 11 ounces With the eight amp hour Eight pounds 11 ounces eight pounds ten And a half ounces so adding a pound There And this should add another pound So yeah nine pounds nine and a half Ounces so you're looking at a nine and a Half pound tool with a 12 amp hour Battery a seven and a half pound tool With the five amp hour battery maybe Seven and three quarters something like That yeah so right at seven and three Quarter pounds with the five amp hour Battery but let's uh let's take a Measurement on this I think with that Five amp hour we're going to be under 11 But you're going to be over 11 with that

12 amp hour and then length of the tool Is nine inches again this is a high Torque impact wrench it's not meant to Be a compact or really small this is Going to be that tool you're reaching For when you want something to give when You want it to break free And that's going to be a large tool as Always so let's take this over And use it all right well let's get Started with the ultra torque first Thing we're going to do is to take our Torque tool we're going to torque this First Fastener to 150 foot-pounds Because that's kind of the floor of this Torque tool so we're going to go 150 and Then we're going to go to 200 and go by 100. so 150 200 300 400 and then we'll Start 500 on these larger Fasteners here And go up to 6 and 700. Foreign Let's get started so we have the tool in Mode three power mode three and we have A full 5 amp hour battery let's make Sure we're in Reverse yep 150 foot pound Foreign So now we're starting at 500 foot pounds Okay we're gonna go back through and We're going to re-tighten these because Obviously we Eclipse 700 foot pounds With no problem at all so we did all the Way up to five six seven hundred foot Pounds we're going to start back here at

800 foot-pounds do eight nine and a Thousand foot pounds Foreign [Applause] Let's Make sure our battery is charged yeah we Still have a full charge Still in Reverse still in power mode Three And now we're starting at 800 Foot-pounds gonna do 800 900 and 1000. Here we go Thank you Thank you Okay no problem there We've eclipsed a thousand foot pounds Now let me show you the auto tour uh the Auto feature the auto mode feature and We're going to do it in loosen because These are pretty tight right now and We're going to I'm going to hold my Finger on the trigger and see what Happens Okay so It hammered hard broke the Fastener free And then slowed way up let's do it one More time So you see it broke it free paused a Split second and then was much slower Backing that off so that's the auto Removal uh feature so now let's see that In Titan Mode I'm just going to slide it Over Slide the direction lever over We're going to leave it in the auto mode

And we'll see I'm going to hold my Finger on the trigger and leave it there So my finger is still on the trigger Let's do that one more time Foreign Still on the trigger so basically it Senses when that bolt or when that Fastener is tight and then it shuts the Tool down keeping you from over Tightening fasteners One more time Again it stops the tool Okay now we're starting at 1100 Foot-pounds we're going to go to 11 12 12 and 1300 foot pounds let's make sure We get a full battery And let's go back to speed mode or power Mode three make sure we reverse And we'll give it 10 seconds to break it Free if it's moving it after 10 seconds We'll go ahead and let it have it so 1100 foot pounds Foreign No problem let's move on to the largest Fasters and start at 1400 foot-pounds Foreign Okay here we go we're starting at 1400 Foot-pounds 1400 1500 1600 and 1700 foot Pounds Let's see we still have a full Battery on the 5 amp hour And We're in reverse and mode three Foreign Foreign

That is very impressive so 1700 foot Pounds and that's with the 5 amp hour Battery we haven't even stepped up to The 21 700 cells let's go back and uh And tighten these up and start from There again Foreign [Applause] Okay we put on a fresh 5-0 battery Because it had dropped a cell so got a Fresh 5-0 battery we're in Reverse in Mode three Now we're at 1800 foot-pounds All right Okay it was moving at 10 seconds so That's why I let it keep eating so we've Done 1800 and 1900 foot pounds with the Half inch with the 5 amp hour battery And we're going to go ahead and let the Five amp hour start on the 1900 or on The 2000 foot pounds see if we can break That free then we'll go to the 8 or 12 Amp hour Okay did not budge on that one stayed in The same place for 10 seconds so we're Going to call it that 1900 foot pounds With the 5 amp hour battery Now I'm going to go ahead and jump up to The 12-0 battery 12 amp hour battery full charge Mode three Foreign So we're going to go ahead and try to Attack the 2000 and then jump to the

2100 if it if it does this one [Music] I think it's cutting out due to heat Because it's just stopping the tools We're going to let it rest Okay we've let this cool down for a few Minutes we've got it in reverse mode Three Still got a full 12 amp hour battery and We've re-torqued this to 2100 Foot-pounds Just doesn't like to work that hard for That long so we're going to call it Quits at that we definitely did 2 000 Foot pounds could not quite do the 2100. Okay so full disclosure here it's been a Few hours since we shot and realized we Had some corrupt footage when we got to The 2000 foot pounds and then even some In the 2100 foot-pounds we got some in The 2100 which you'll see in a moment But we're going to go ahead and torque Down at 2 000 foot-pounds and at 2100 Foot pounds and so if something looks a Little different angle something like That one and two again just give you uh The full detail of what's Happening here So I'm going to go to 2000 . So we've got two thousand foot pounds And 2100 foot pounds Still a full 12v battery In reverse Mode three

Foreign 2100. So no go I know on the first round uh we Said that we that it was cutting out Which it was but now that it had been Resting several hours we were able to Get it a full run but it still can't Break free the 2100 foot pounds so Definitely accomplished the 2000 but the 2100 having trouble without not able to Do it [Applause] And just for Giggles we brought out the DCF 900 with a fresh 9-0 Flex volt Battery In mode 3 back at 2100 foot pounds And here we go Did not move And by the way if you want to know what Kind of damage is done when we're Testing like this if you look here this Is cleaned before every event we do or Before every testing that we do and Especially Before we did this testing and you'll See here with this magnet What I'm picking up looks like we've Been drilling on this table but we have It All this is coming from either an impact Wrench Or from a socket Most of the time it's the socket usually The anvils hold up pretty well

And you can see how it's starting to Mushroom out so sockets don't last a Long time as well as you see Stuff sometimes you'll just see it Raining down while we're impacting if You look at our videos sometimes you can See it Well I think we're getting into Territory where we shouldn't be with a Half inch impact wrench I know it's Exciting it really is but really and Truly you should see the shrapnel that's Left behind after testing when you start Getting into that high of foot pounds When you're torquing Fasteners that high The torque that takes to deliver that Blow to loosen those Fasteners it just Wreaks havoc on the anvils seem to do Okay but the sockets really start coming Apart and like I said you can we did an Instagram post of just literally a Little pieces of metal floating all over The place that are left behind after You're doing impact wrench testing and We cleaned that before every use or After ever use or both but anyway so the Destruction that's happening when you're At that level we just showed you at 2100 Foot pounds it just didn't want to Finish the job I don't know if it could Have done it or not but every time we'd Try it would go into a cut out now lower Torque it didn't seem to have a problem With that but just that much for course

It just did not like the tool did not Like it kept going into a cutout and we Even brought back the DeWalt the DCB uh Or the DCF 900 just to see if it maybe Would have a chance at the 2100 Foot-pounds it did not either but at 2 000 foot-pounds this thing breaking it Free and the 5 amp hour battery Breaking Free 1900 foot-pounds is quite Impressive from the Harbor Freight Tool Now pricing on this is 199 or let's call It 200 bucks this one was 180 so for 20 Bucks more you could step up to the high Torque I think it's another half pound Or another pound heavier or something Like that or right at the same weight But again when you're reaching for a High torque gun who cares uh you know You're you're expecting a heavy tool the Batteries uh the 5 amp power is going to Run you about 70 bucks and the charger The Dual Bay charger is going to run you Like 65 bucks Um the 8 Amp Hour battery is going to Run you 110 dollars in the 12 amp hour Battery is going to run you about a Hundred and fifty dollars the batteries Are covered for three years the tools Are covered for five years so Harbor Freight has really stepped that up on Some of their new tools their new Hercules tools you got a five year Warranty now not just a 90-day store Warranty not something you got to buy
