The new RYOBI FVH61 USB Lithium Solder Pen gets to soldering temperature in just 40 seconds. Powered by the USB lithium 4V battery, this solder pen is small and easy to use. The fine tip and small battery makes this best used for smaller projects, but we made several solder joints without the battery indicator going to “low battery.” You can get the RYOBI solder pen at The Home Depot starting in July 2023 for $70. #ryobitools #homedepot #review

Would you ditch your soldering iron for A soldering pin well Ryobi thinks you Might [Music] Ryobi continues to expand their line of USB rechargeable tools uh this runs on Their USB lithium platform has the new 2 Amp Hour USB lithium battery that Charges on the USB type c cable and this Is their soldering pin now the cool Thing about this is number one as you Can see is very small and portable but It also heats up rather quickly I Believe it gets to like 550 degrees and Just 40 seconds and then gets up to full Temperature of 900 Degrees I believe It's like a two minute range for that so It takes a little bit of time to get up To 900 but basically turn it on you know Get get everything set up and it should Be ready to go but 40 seconds to 550 is Not bad at all and again the lightness And the portability of this if it works As they say it does this could Definitely be one of those tools that's Obviously great for a diy-er but also as A pro it can be that supplemental tool For those small quick jobs it makes it Much easier to use versus has been Taking out your you know your big Weller Or any other you know larger cordless Soldering iron so let's get this out and See what we think So this is the model number
Fvh 61k and again it's their USB lithium Soldering iron so you can see the USB Lithium I believe it's a four volt Battery this is their 2 amp hour version Of the battery and you say USB port Right there on the battery and it lights Up uh I believe green and red definitely A solid green when it's finished Charging and blinking green while it's Charging you can use the included USB Type-c cable or use your own and there's No accidental way to put this in you got A flat spot here on the battery so it Slides right in appropriately and then You put the lid on and you're good to go Again the Fe 861 is the bottle number And yes has a four volt tool now I Believe this is coming out sometime in July it's June right now middle of June So maybe another couple of weeks before We actually see these on the shelves but Thought we'd go ahead and show this to You doesn't look like you have any Options switches anything else other Than just turning it on I'm wondering if We may have to hold that down That's interesting so nothing Looks like that pops on and off Okay and we have a steel insert there on The inside of this plastic housing so That keeps the the tip centered when you Put it in the case and also also looks Like you can't put this in crooked or Upside down it doesn't lock in until you
Get it right and then it pops into place Not a bad idea okay So There we go so hold the button down And now it's blinking let me turn this Up back off Okay so now it's off I'm curious Back on Okay so there must be a sensor on this Tool that will not let it turn on with The cap on there so great idea for Something like this you don't want to Sit in there melting that cap so we have To take the cap off and then we hold the Button down Looks like a couple of seconds and then It actually turns the tool on and it's Flashing I'm assuming it's going to go Solid green when it's up to temperature If we read the directions we might know That right looks like we get a very fine Tip on this as well and even an LED Light And I'm curious how quick Oh wow so yeah we're already smoking Flocks So we're good there Oh yeah so we're already melding some Fine solder Even just a few seconds in so not bad at All turn this back off Okay now it's off Not bad at all and Very light in the hand as well and the
Weight is up here on the front I mean There's a little weight back here on the Back but you can definitely hold this Like this without it having too much Rear weight pretty balanced in the hand To be able to control that tip where we Need it you also get a little foot right There that again is going to help it Stabilize right there not roll around I'm sure you can still roll it around But still the tip stays off the ground It's not like it's going to sit there on Something but then you can also set it Rested on the back side as well So I'm going to go ahead and turn this Back on And we'll let it sit here and heat up While we get some wires ready Okay we've got a wire in here wired Together and let's put some solder on There A little solder on the tip there It's melting on the tip of the of the Gun but it's not quite Okay now we've floated it very well so It took a little bit of time that is a Little bit larger of a wire than I would Think you'd use with this gun but in a Pinch if we needed to use that not a Problem at all that's flowed that solder Very nicely And that's ready to go by the way you Never want to put too much solder you Don't want that solder flowing on each
Side of that joint down behind the Shielding that's going to make for a a Brittle solder job so you just want that To be able to solder together and you're Good So I know what your favorite wire is Especially for conductive wiring is a Good old speaker wire right So let's see how well it does with that We'll just go ahead and wire these Together And we'll use a little Little flux there So we're already flowing Into the wire Way more than we should be So yeah no problems there so if you're Wiring up speakers or you know running Wiring for your amp with speaker wire Don't do that by the way but just Showing you that it has no trouble Soldering speaker wire And then also we like to repair our Extension cords right we always do that Correctly This is probably I would assume a 12 Gauge A little dab of solder on the tip that Always helps Spread that heat a little better And we're already flowing Get a little on the tip Yeah so we're already flowing the solder There so yeah once this thing heats up
Looks like it's flowing really well Especially on clean wiring which that Gives you Another big tip is that if you're using Clean wire or at least trimming it off Where you have clean wire you're going To get a lot better solder job and Flow And then finally here's some 10 gauge Wire And I get it we're not soldering a joint Together so that probably take a little More energy but just thought I'd show The abilities of Doing this let me get some some flux on That as well Oh yeah plenty of flux there So there's a cold solder joint right There so there's there's solder flowing On there but only because I've melted it With the tip but it's not actually Flowing into the wire yet so you can see There it's just kind of resting on top Now it's starting to flow There we go so now you can see the Solder is actually flowing into the wire Not just onto the tip of the gun so now You can see the solder is actually Flowing into the wire But I will say sometimes you can kind of Cheat the system especially when you're Doing let's say oversized wire for the For the tool that you maybe have in your Hand it helps to put a little solder on The tip first and that'll help to
Broaden that heat across the actual Subject matter to flow that solder I Think Our battery may be dead nope There we go Maybe there's an automatic shut off We'll read those instructions here in a Second because that just Triggered off Unless I held the button by accident but I don't believe that I did I'm going to let this heat up So again you see we have a cold joint There because that solder just sitting Up on that wire Now the solder is starting to flow Not as well on this larger wire But you see it does melt On the copper and not just on the tip So probably wouldn't recommend it for 10 Gauge wire as you see right there Especially on something that's kind of a Um a harder or more firm type of wire Like this like a type of roll mix almost Like stranded Romex but on something With more of a flexible core copper it's Going to flow a lot easier And then definitely on the smaller wires We'll do this one again See it's already flowing in the copper Just taking that in again I'm putting Way more than I should Just showing you it's flowing Not just on the tip
But into the copper itself pretty cool Little unit so I don't know if I turn to Push the button to turn it off or if it Actually went off on a timer but Regardless I've done several jobs with This little unit so that could be a Great little unit very handy whether You're getting under the dash of a Vehicle or under a hood but to do a Couple of jobs and man not have to worry About a cord dragging in there or Something big And also the LED light not a bad idea Either especially under those dashes All right so a couple of things before We end this uh we pulled the battery out By the way to recharge it um even though It wasn't dead because it said in the Manual here and we always read the Manual before we use it right anyway it Says when it's heating it's flashing Green and when it's ready for use it's Solid green uh battery level is less Than 25 you get a solid red no flashes When it's low battery it flashes red Three times and then when there's no tip Present flashing green three flashes so We know that it was all operating normal And the battery is not low even yet so You're going to get several uses out of This and also there is a 10 minute shut Off so after it being on for 10 minutes It's just going to automatically shut Off I might argue that it needs to have
Some type of motion sensor where it Knows if it's still in motion it doesn't Trigger that but for a tool that's this Small and it's really set up for Di Wires I'm not going to argue with that It's not a bad idea to have that just You know 10 minutes of use it shuts off And by the way the LED light comes on When the unit's on so you know if the LED lights on that it's on and I noticed Something else as well here in the cap There's a big protrusion right there and That lines up with that hole right there And there's a little micro button back In there micro switch and that's what's Turning that unit off or doesn't allow It to power on when you have the cap on So not a bad idea at all So here's the skinny on the Ryobi USB Lithium tool runs on their four Volt 2 Amp Hour USB lithium battery charges With their USB type-c cable I love that So any USB type-c cable will work this Is a very useful little tool and we do Think it can cross over that Pro Line as Well so it can be that supplemental tool For a pro for those smaller jobs and Also very useful tool for the DIY or That person that they're in their home Or in their shop in their garage great Idea price on this is like 70 bucks 69.97 or 69.95 two-year warranty on this As well very handy little tool it will Be coming out in July at your Home Depot
