RYOBI changed up the game again with their newest ratchet. This RYOBI PCL280 Multi-Size 18V Cordless Ratchet offers a feature where you can change out the anvils from 1/4″ square to 3/8″ square, to 1/2″ square, and even 1/4″ hex. Ryobi's really making us scratch our Heads on their latest rats [Music] This is the Ryobi PCL 280 and it's their Latest 18 volt ratchet release now here We have kind of the family of Ryobi Cordless ratchets now let's dive in and Look at the details of these and talk About why this one kind of threw us for A loop as well as we'll talk about the Features of this the pricing of it and Then we'll come back and wrap it up so This is the family of Ryobi cordless Ratchets 18 volt ratchets well not just 18 volt ratchets because we have the two Brand new USB lithium ratchets and there Are a couple of ratchets missing you Know the quarter inch drive in this and The 3 8 drive in this but regardless Pretty much for as far as the Generations this is the generations of Of Ryobi cordless ratchets now I have a Problem with a couple of things but Before I get into that let's talk about The latest rendition of their ratchet Which is pretty cool with an asterisk on It the professional I don't believe is Going to Care much for this but I could Be totally wrong because some of the Comments we got on this on our Instagram Page was Something we were surprised at we were Surprised at how how much that people Geeked over this um this cool feature

And it is a cool feature but I see it as A DIY feature I see it as a feature that Uh you know Joe homeowner may love but I Don't believe the professional mechanic Is going to number one may not be buying The Ryobi but they may because we've Seen definitely entry level techs uh Buying into the Ryobi platform and Rightly so I mean why not if you can get A tool that will last you for a little Bit that's going to cost you a lot less Money why not have no problem with that Whatsoever anyway the thing is is it has A removable handle now let's talk about The model number it's the PCL 280 and This is the latest rendition of the Ryobi ratchet now just a few weeks ago They they talked about releasing and I'm Not even sure if they're out yet but These are the USB lithium ratchets That's cool for small scale stuff I Doubt you're going to be using it on a Vehicle if you are it's going to be very Small Fastener stuff off because not Going to have much force as far as Torque goes as well as you're not going To put a lot of manual input on that and I doubt they're even going to cover that Under warranty if you are putting manual Input on it so anyway they just released This one which is the PCL 280 and what It is it's basically a cordless ratchet Obviously and you see right here it says Quarter inch 3 8 and half inch well how

Could it be all of those things well Very easy you slide this little lock Here and you pull this out and now you Have a replaceable Anvil so I can pull This out this is the half inch drive you Can see I've got a quarter inch drive There I pull the slide back Slide the hex into place and then that Little slide Clips in there into that Little groove right there and now I have A quarter inch drive I have my small Quarter inch socket I can put that on There and now I can go to town on Working on anything with you know Quarter inch Drive sockets so I've got a 3 8 drive socket I need to swap that out Slide this back pull it out It's a little grease in there by the way I'm sure you want to probably keep it Greased slide that in and again this Little thing slides in the groove to Lock that into place and now I can run My 3 8 drive sockets and again people Were really geeking out over this now Also what Ryobi offers because it really This is a a feature that I think is an Answer to one of their problems and that Is the feature is you can pull this Lockering back and you can turn the head And you can index it every 90 degrees to Get that head where you want it and I Think that's an answer to the big Elephant in the room and that's the big 18 volt battery stuck here on the bottom

Now listen I get it Ryobi can't you know Redraw their platform because it's Something they stick with to say hey all Of our OnePlus 18 volt batteries will Work in all of our existing tools and Vice versa in other words the newest Battery will power the oldest cordless Tool in the oldest battery will power The newest cordless tool with the Exception of some HP stuff but Regardless same profile of a battery Which stick you know it's got a big post And it sticks out the front so it's hard To get away from that so I get it They're making the best out of a Situation and that's our feature here Where it indexes uh every 90 degrees so That's cool now We can also trade this out if I pull This out and we can go to I know you're Probably already guessing it to a half Inch drive as well so now lock that into Place and now I've got my big half inch Drive socket and I can put that on there And now go to town on my larger Fasteners my half inch Drive sockets The other thing it offers Is right here on the inside of that half Inch Drive Is a quarter inch hex so now I can run Bits in there And if you have a combination where you Have a combination nut and Screw on some of your new European cars

Now you can run the bit and the socket At the same time no I'm just joking that Never happens but anyway so The half inch Drive Anvil also doubles As a hex drive as well so you can run uh You know screwdriver bits or torx bits Or whatever you need to do so pretty Cool feature that that does swap out a Couple of things If our professional were using this I Think this is going to wear out because It's just a little slide mechanism right There that slides in that little Groove So you can see this little slide Mechanism there and again that slides in That little Groove and I think that's Probably got a potential to wear out if You're using that a lot but there you Have it there's the cool new feature I Get it cool idea is it going to be used In the Pro level field in the Pro Mechanics field I doubt it but maybe now here's my beef About it I'm a big Crescendo right you Were expecting something to come up the Way I was talking and here's my beef on This and to get there you're gonna have To listen to me a few more seconds so How these came about uh first we had the PS BRC 26 that's this one here that's The OnePlus HP 3 8 drive ratchet again Rotating head on all of these on but This one came out and the price on this Was 129 for the bear tool and 179

Dollars for the kit then we actually had The extended head ratchet that came out I don't know it's probably been about a Year ago and this is the Pblrc01 and the bear tool price on this Is 169 or 217 for the kit so one night Or 129 179 169 217 and now the newest One is this PCL 280 which has the Multiple different different Anvil Attachments the rotating head on it this Price is 119 for the bear tool 159 for The kit so this is the cheapest one Across the board Now why is that when it has multiple Features on it why is it cheaper well Look closely at this and what's sticking Out like a sore thumb or what's missing Like your sore thumb and that is it's Not a OnePlus HP it's not a high Performance tool it's not a brushless Tool I don't have a problem with tools Not being brushless but I do have a Problem with is you moving into a tool Category with a brushless tool then Releasing something that's not a Brushless tool without really kind of Saying that it's not a brushless tool And you're kind of stepping down in that Quality now I get it maybe they're going To come out with the one plus HP Brushless with the replaceable handle Maybe maybe I get it okay that may be The case but again I just had a small Problem with again the latest release

You're really not being talked about That it's not a brushless tool yes it Doesn't have the moniker on it with the HP to tell us that at the same time you Know you kind of expect that you'd go Along the same route and just to prove Upon it and we would love to see these Same features going into the extended Head version we thought we'd maybe take One apart and get it to fit but as you Can see this is a lot smaller head on The extended reach than on the standard Reach with the replaceable anvils on it Now with the PCL 280 you do still get a Three year warranty on this as I Mentioned it does the the quarter inch The 3 8 and the half inch drive as well As the quarter inch hex drive as well And you get up to you get dual onboard LEDs as well as you get the one and a Half amp hour battery if you do purchase The kit up to 260 RPM and they claim up To 35 foot pounds of torque and again The price on this guy is 119 for the Bear tool or 159 for the kit with the One and a half amp hour battery and a Charger as we mentioned we like the Features of this ratchet the fact that You can change out anvils but again we Think it's probably more stuck to the DIY side to the amateur side the you Know the homeowner if you will and less So of the professional mechanical let us Know if you think differently or if you

Agree with us in the comments Um so pretty cool and easy to swap out These anvils another thing is I bet this Gets lost a lot and it may be the other One but whichever one you use the least I bet it probably gets lost a lot so you Know the ability to be able to replace These will be a big thing the other Thing is stepping down to a brushed Motor again I don't have a problem with Brush motors but when you go from a Brushless motor and your next model is Now stepping down to a brushed motor That's something that people definitely Need to know about so check it out for Your themselves to get us to PCL 280 119 Dollars for the bear tool or 159 for the Kit as you see here with the one and a Half amp hour battery and the charger Keep track of us on Instagram Facebook Twitter and even Tick Tock and if you Don't mind would you hit that like And Subscribe button if you haven't done so Already and by all means if you hated Our video well then let us know in the Comments why have a great day keep Smiling
